The Portuguese singer Ana Moura is a bright star of the younder fado generation whose sensual songs have delicate melancholy, but also fortitude. Isn’t fado music for the soul after all, one person’s private confession to another – singing the sorrow out. Ana Moura doesn’t forget the history of the music when singing fado today. The members of Rolling Stones and Prince are among the many appreciators of Moura’s talent. Ana Moura’s Christmas tour contains both fresh melodies and audience favourites.
Read moreAna Moura grew up in the capital of Ribatejo region, Santarém, where she sang at family events with her parents ever since she was little. At one Christmas party, where Ana was singing fado, a known fadista Maria de Fe noticed her and she invited the girl to sing at her fado house. That was the start of her dizzying stardom.
Ana Moura’s first album released in 2003, ‘Guarda-me a Vida na Mão’ was well-received by both the critics and audiences. The young singer’s second album ‘Aconteceu’ (2005) brought her an invitation to perform at the famous Carnegie Hall in New York. Sold out concerts in Europe’s biggest venues followed, and soon Ana Moura’s concert geography expanded to Asia. Ana Moura’s third album ‘Para Além da Saudade (2007) stayed at the top of the world music charts for 70 weeks! The fourth album ‘Leva-me aos Fados’ (2009) went platinum fast. In 2011, the magazine Songlines chose her as the artist of the year. To the recording of the album ‘Desfado’ (2012) she included guest performers, among those the legendary jazz musician Herbie Hancock. This album carries two songs written by Pedro da Silva Martins from the popular Portuguese pop band Deolinda, and the album is also acclaimed by the younger audience. Ana Moura performed to a full house at Jazzkaar in 2009.
