J.Jacobs & W.Casey musical “Grease”

Greasers was the name given to a working class youth subculture in the United States as the male members of the subgroup were in the habit of greasing their hair with pomade.

The musical is set in Rydell High School in 1959. Having had a love affair in summer, Danny Zuko and Sandy Dumbrowski end up in the same school in autumn. However, at school Danny is the leader of the gang of greasers called the Burger Palace Boys, and being the leader it is not suitable for Danny to show his feelings. The overly demure and disappointed Sandy then joins the girls’ gang called the Pink Ladies. After several ordeals Danny finally realises that Sandy is his true love. Sandy, in turn, finds that in order to win Danny back, she needs to change her image…

A musical of the same name was produced in 1978 in Hollywood, directed by Randal Kleiser, making John Travolta, who was only 23 at the time, and the Australian singer Olivia Newton-John, famous all over the world.
