On October 8, 2012, Nigel Kennedy and his quintet perform at Nokia Concert Hall. Nigel Kennedy, one of the world’s leading violinists, has performed with numerous top orchestras and won many awards during his close to 30-year career. The tickets for his Tallinn concert are on sale since Thursday, 6 September, in TicketPro sales points and Statoil petrol stations across Estonia.
Kennedy, a boy prodigy, made his recording debut in 1984. His recording of Vivaldi’s The Four Seasons with the English Chamber Orchestra in 1989 sold over 2 million copies and earned a place as one of the best-selling classical works ever. The album remained top of the UK classical charts for over a year. In 1991, the controversial artist decided to refrain from any public appearances. After a five-year break he made a triumphant return to the stage and received an award for Outstanding Contribution to British Music at the BRIT Awards.
One of Kennedy’s greatest inspirations has been the rock-guitarist Jimi Hendrix. Kennedy recorded a cover of Jimi Hendrix’s Fire for the 1993 album Stone Free: A Tribute to Jimi Hendrix. In 1999, he released The Kennedy Experience, which featured improvisational recordings of Hendrix compositions. This gave rise to Kennedy’s cooperation with numerous pop and rock artists, such as The Doors, The Who, Kate Bush, Sarah Brightman, etc.
Thanks to his bravado and extravagance, Kennedy has been referred to as one of the most colourful classical music personas. “Although I play music composed by people who are dead, it doesn’t mean I should look like as if I were attending a funeral,” he has explained his imago.
Kennedy’s management has presented the organisers of his Tallinn concert with a multi-page list of detailed requirements to the food, transport and accommodation. Just one of Tallinn’s luxury hotels complied with the extravagant wishes of the artist.
The Nigel Kennedy’s Quintet includes PIOTR WYLEZOŁ (piano), ADAM KOWALEWSKI (bass), KRZYSZTOF DZIEDZIC (drums), TOMASZ GRZEGORSKI (brass).
The first part of the concert is called Solo Bach and in the second part, the Quintet plays Nigel Kennedy’s original work.
The producers of the concert are Nokia Concert Hall in cooperation with BDG.
