THE ORCHESTRA

The Royal Philharmonic Concert Orchestra was formed in 1987 and has built up an international reputation in its own right. Performing in the major concert halls and concert venues in the UK and around the world, from China and the Far East to North and South America, the RPCO is known for its versatile programming of classical, light classical and popular music.

Highlights of the Royal Philharmonic Concert Orchestra’s recent seasons have included four performances with Barry Manilow at London’s O2 Arena in May 2011 and two sell-out performances at the London Coliseum with pop/opera quartet Il Divo. It performed with Broadway stars Idina Menzel and Marvin Hamlisch at the Royal Albert Hall in October 2011 and played the music of Mahler and Mozart for two dance performances by Scottish Ballet at Sadler’s Wells in November 2011.

One of the RPCO’s biggest touring engagements in recent seasons was to accompany Sting on part of his world tour of Symphonicity for performances across North America and Europe to wide critical acclaim.

The RPCO also performed the music of John Williams for the production of Star Wars: a Musical Journey.The RPCO has a worldwide reputation for working with internationally renowned artists ranging from opera luminaries Andrea Bocelli, José Carreras, Lesley Garrett, Bryn Terfel, Renée Fleming, Kiri Te Kanawa and the late Luciano Pavarotti to popular culture icons Burt Bacharach, Tina Turner, George Benson, Michel Legrand, Henry Mancini, Liza Minnelli, Dionne Warwick, Barry Manilow, Sting and Stevie Wonder, to name but a few.

THE CHOIR

To date Metro Voices has been involved in more than 120 Film soundtrack recordings. In 2012/2013 work included Madagascar 3, Frankenweenie, Stoker, Breaking Dawn Part 2, Asterix, Promised Land, Gravity, Oscar-winning Life of Pi and soon to be released The Great Gatsby and World War Z. The back catalogue includes such blockbusters as The Da Vinci Code, Alice in Wonderland,  Pirates of the Caribbean, Ridley Scott’s Robin Hood, Angels and Demons, Troy, The Talented Mr Ripley, Romeo and Juliet, Moulin Rouge, Sweeney Todd and Mamma Mia.

Metro Voices has recorded with a huge variety of artists including Katherine Jenkins, Will Young, Pet Shop Boys, Pulp, Bjork, Craig Armstrong, Joni Mitchell, Russell Watson, Paco Pena, Hayley Westenra, Sir Elton John, Goldfrapp, Faith Hill, Sir Tom Jones and Michael Jackson.  More recently, Metro Voices can also be heard on albums by Nightwish (Imaginaerum), Sarah Brightman and American Folk singer, Mary Chapin Carpenter.

Equally at home in a live context, Metro Voices has appeared in concerts with Robbie Williams, Craig Armstrong, Dame Judi Dench and with Patrick Stewart at The Henley Regatta and Buckingham Palace, Damon Albarn’s opera Monkey Journey To The West at London’s O2 Arena, the theatrical presentation of David Attenborough’s The Blue Planet and a concert of The Music of A.R. Rahman. A highlight last year was recording the ballet section with Darcy Bussell for the closing ceremony of the London Olympics.

Adele’s Oscar-winning title track to Skyfall was recorded by Metro Voices at Abbey Road studios and their vocal arrangement was used for her live performance at the Oscars.

CONDUCTOR

Matthew Freeman enjoys a diverse international career. His association with the Royal Philharmonic Orchestra (RPO) began with the album Symphonic Rock which has subsequently been performed annually at the Royal Albert Hall. Additional orchestrations include film music for Gladiator and Die Another Day. In 2010 he conducted the Royal Philharmonic Orchestra in the presence of HRH Prince Charles celebrating 25 years of the Prince’s charity Business In The Community at the Royal Albert Hall.

Conducting over fifty albums with the BBC Concert Orchestra, Danish Radio Orchestra, Sønderjyllands Symfoniorkester, Prague Symphony Orchestra, Metropole Orchestra of Amsterdam and the NRK Oslo Orchestra has led to the orchestration of music for, amongst others, Larry Adler, Shirley Bassey, Vic Damone, Ken Dodd, Ruthie Henshall, Howard Keel, Millicent Martin, David Soul, Lorna Luft (creating a duet with Judy Garland) and Roger Whittaker. Matthew Freeman was invited to arrange and conduct Decca’s celebration of the HM Queen Mother’s 100th birthday. He has been personal musical director for Shirley Bassey, Michael Crawford, Anthony Newley, Frankie Vaughan and for Mary O’Hara at Carnegie Hall, Sydney Opera House and for her sixteen-part television series with the City of London Sinfonia.

Credits in the film world include vocal coaching Drew Barrymore, Elizabeth Shue and Keanu Reeves.

Matthew Freeman’s first venture into the world of ABBA was to conduct and arrange ABBA The Show. This production recreates the sound of ABBA with original ABBA band members and the National Symphony Orchestra. It has played in thirty-four countries and at Wembley Arena on two occasions following in the footsteps of the original ABBA.
